The Love-Hate Relationship between your GUT & HAIR!

Did you think that there is a connection between your gut and hair? A condition called Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease which attacks your hair follicles, thus causing your hair to fall out in clumps. How is this related to your gut, you may ask?

Leaky Gut Syndrome

We all know that our gut is responsible for good digestion. What happens is, our gut absorbs nutrients during digestion from the food and releases these nutrients into the bloodstream. In case of the leaky gut syndrome, your digestive health starts to fail and toxins tend to accumulate in your body. These toxins can cause holes in your intestinal lining. When these holes are formed, bigger food particles from the intestine enter the bloodstream. Your body identifies these particles as foreign bodies, you then start to develop an autoimmune disease. This autoimmune disease causes your body’s immune system to

identify your hair follicles as foreign material and starts to attack them, causing your hair to fall out in clumps. When you suffer from unhealthy gut health, it causes inflammation in your body. Once your gut is healed, the inflammation comes down and your hair starts to grow as per a normal growth cycle. Some of the main causes of a leaky gut are excessive alcohol, stress and accumulation of toxins. The best way to treat this is by restoring your gut health with probiotics and eating healthy.

Heal the NAVEDA Way

Ayurveda has always believed in a complete holistic living style. Aggravation of the  Pitta   dosha  is

generally caused due to excessive hot climates, spicy food, smoking, alcohol, meats and all heat-

generating foods. In order to reduce hair loss you need to maintain a healthy balanced diet, as well as eat at the right times and cook the right way. We have outlined the right way to get your gut feeling good in

the next section.

Natural Digestion Tips

Ayurvedic principles about digestion revolved around the concept of digestive fire (jatharagni). As per Ayurveda, our digestive fire is at its peak between 12 pm and 2 pm, so you should eat the heaviest meal during this time. Let’s make this easy, just like when you’re cooking, the higher the flame, the faster the food cooks. Similarly, the stronger your digestive fire, the faster and better is your digestion.

 Ayurveda recommends sitting and eating because when you are sitting, your stomach is in a settled environment. A settled environment allows your body to absorb maximum nutrients from your food.

 If you suffer from an underactive  agni , it is recommend to have a teaspoon of ginger with a pitch of salt and few drops of lemon before eating. This activates your salivary glands which produce the necessary enzymes to promote digestion.

 If you differ from an overactive agni or suffer from excess of the Pitta dosha, it is recommended to go for cooling drinks like rose water or a pomegranate chutney.

 Include a lot of vegetables especially leafy green ones in your diet. They are great for your hair.

Vegetables like beets, broccoli, spinach and carrots will work well.

 Try including herbs like cilantro, basil and mints like peppermint or spearmint in your diet. They make a yummy meal. Coconut has always been known for its ability to nourish your hair. That’s where the whole concept of using coconut oil in your hair came from. When you suffer from excess of the Pitta dosha, it is

recommended to add coconut to your vegetables or drink coconut juice. It has a cooling effect and adds moisture to the dryness of your hair and scalp.

 Add nuts to your diet. Soak them for a few hours or overnight before taking them. You can even try this with raisins.

 Amla or Indian gooseberry is like a super Hair & Gut food. It is known to strengthen your hair and reduce hair loss by balancing the gastric juices and boosting digestive powers!

 NAVEDA Spirulina a complete nutrition, a Probiotic blue green Algae, with rich source of proteins

which boosts your digestive powers, enhances your immune system and promotes hair & scalp health.
